The young winger is currently enjoying the most consistent period of his Premier League career, delivering decisive contributions against high-profile opponents and steadily growing in confidence.
After joining United from Lecce for £25 million ($34m) in February 2025, Dorgu initially struggled to settle and faced questions about whether he could adapt to the demands of English football. Twelve months later, those doubts are fading as the 21-year-old begins to establish himself.
A key factor in his improvement has been a change in role. Under former boss Ruben Amorim, Dorgu was deployed as a wing-back, a position that restricted his attacking impact and exposed his discomfort in defensive tracking.
With Amorim replaced by interim manager Michael Carrick, Dorgu has been given license to operate as a direct winger. The adjustment has unlocked his pace, energy and attacking instincts.
In his last seven league appearances, Dorgu has recorded three goals and two assists. He found the net in the Manchester derby before delivering again at Arsenal with a stunning finish that flew in off the crossbar, leaving David Raya stranded.
Evra, watching from afar, reacted on social media with a playful message after seeing the strike. Dorgu responded by referencing Evra’s famous Champions League goal against Bayern Munich in 2014, a half-volley that beat Manuel Neuer.
The resemblance between the two finishes has sparked comparisons, while Dorgu’s overall style has drawn parallels with Gareth Bale. Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara suggested the Dane reminds him of Bale during the early stages of his career at Spurs.
Despite his heroics, Dorgu was unable to complete the full match against Arsenal after feeling discomfort late on. Carrick reassured supporters that the problem appeared to be nothing more than cramp and praised the winger’s all-round performance.
The interim manager highlighted Dorgu’s attacking threat, physical presence and defensive contribution, especially in combination with Luke down the flank. He also expressed satisfaction at seeing the youngster enjoying his football again.
With United now inside the Premier League’s top four, Dorgu will have time to recover ahead of their next match at home to Fulham on Sunday. His recent form suggests he will remain a central figure in Carrick’s plans.
