Man Utd Handed Chance to Sign Loftus-Cheek on Loan as January Window Heats Up
Manchester United are reportedly exploring a shock loan move for Ruben Loftus-Cheek after AC Milan made the England midfielder available during the January transfer window. The 29-year-old, who joined the Italian giants in 2023 from Chelsea, could be set for a temporary return to the Premier League following preliminary discussions between the clubs.

Loftus-Cheek has enjoyed a largely injury-free spell in Italy, making 90 appearances for Milan and establishing himself as a reliable option in midfield. Despite that consistency, the Serie A side are open to allowing him to leave on loan, offering his services to United as they look to strengthen their squad for the second half of the season.
The midfielder’s career began at Chelsea, where he rose through the academy ranks and made his senior debut during the 2014–15 campaign under José Mourinho. That season ended with a Premier League title, but Loftus-Cheek found himself on the fringes in subsequent years, scoring twice in 17 outings during the difficult 2015–16 season.
A productive loan spell with Crystal Palace helped revive his progress, and he returned to Stamford Bridge in impressive form during the 2018–19 campaign. He featured 40 times, netted ten goals, and played a role in Chelsea’s Europa League triumph. However, an Achilles injury suffered in a post-season friendly sidelined him until the league resumed in the summer of 2020.
Another loan followed at Fulham, where he again performed strongly before returning to Chelsea for two more consistent seasons. In 2023, he chose to move abroad, joining Milan, where he was retained by Massimiliano Allegri last summer despite rumours of a possible departure.
According to talkSPORT, United are now weighing up Milan’s offer to take Loftus-Cheek on loan until the end of the season. The Red Devils boosted their Champions League hopes with a derby victory over Manchester City, with goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu helping them secure a crucial win.
With midfield reinforcements under consideration, Loftus-Cheek has emerged as an option after starting only eight Serie A matches this term, contributing one goal and one assist. The player is believed to be open to a Premier League return, though negotiations remain at an early stage.
United are also monitoring Wilfred Ndidi, another former Premier League midfielder now with Besiktas. The Nigerian international, who enjoyed eight successful years with Leicester City, is keen on moving back to England for footballing and family reasons after making more than 300 appearances for the Foxes and winning multiple domestic honours.
Despite recent upheaval following Ruben Amorim’s dismissal, United remain firmly in the race for a top-four finish. Interim boss Michael Carrick began his tenure with a 2–0 derby victory and has guided the side to fifth place, just one point behind fourth-placed Liverpool.
Kobbie Mainoo’s performance alongside Casemiro proved pivotal in that win, allowing Bruno Fernandes to operate further forward. With only league fixtures remaining, United now prepare for a demanding trip to Arsenal on Sunday.
