Man Utd Transfer Plans: Mateus Fernandes Targeted, Morgan Rogers Set for No.10 Transition

‎Manchester United are preparing for a major midfield transformation as they aim to secure long-term stability within the squad. The club has identified Mateus Fernandes of West Ham United and Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa as key figures for the next phase.

‎Renewed focus on Mateus Fernandes
‎United are considering a summer approach for Fernandes, particularly as they monitor West Ham’s uncertain league situation. The Portuguese midfielder, 21, has stood out during a challenging season and has drawn increased attention from United scouts in recent weeks.
‎Reports indicate that internal talks have already taken place about making an official offer should West Ham suffer relegation. The club previously opted against pursuing Fernandes when he became available, allowing West Ham to complete a £38 million deal instead.
‎Since then, Fernandes has progressed rapidly, earning praise from Roberto Martinez, who described his development as “incredible.” Now part of the senior Portugal setup, the former Sporting CP talent is viewed as one of the league’s most promising and adaptable midfielders.
‎Rogers identified as future No.10
‎Alongside Fernandes, United are also assessing Rogers as a long-term solution in the No.10 position currently occupied by Bruno Fernandes. The Aston Villa attacker’s flexibility, including his ability to operate on the left, adds to his appeal.
‎Although United want Bruno Fernandes to remain at Old Trafford, his contract includes a release clause, introducing some uncertainty. Pursuing Rogers allows the club to plan ahead while also strengthening their current attacking options.
‎Securing qualification for the UEFA Champions League has further enhanced United’s ability to target top domestic talents.
‎Squad reshuffle opens opportunities
‎The club’s interest in new midfielders follows expected departures within the squad. Casemiro is set to leave as a free agent, while Manuel Ugarte has been placed on the transfer list.
‎Only Kobbie Mainoo, who recently signed a long-term contract, is considered central to the future plans. As a result, United are seeking at least two experienced midfield additions to support his development.
‎Extensive list of midfield targets
‎United’s recruitment team is evaluating several high-level options. Aurelien Tchouameni of Real Madrid remains a top ambition, while Adam Wharton from Crystal Palace is also under consideration.
‎Despite concerns that Wharton’s style overlaps with Mainoo, he remains a viable option depending on cost. Meanwhile, United face competition from Manchester City for Elliot Anderson of Nottingham Forest.
‎Sandro Tonali of Newcastle United is another name under review, though any deal would be considered a major surprise.
‎West Ham are expected to demand a profit on Fernandes, but relegation could influence negotiations. For the player, the opportunity to join his idol Bruno Fernandes at Old Trafford may be a decisive factor.
