‎Sir David Beckham Assesses Manchester United's Slow Progress Under Ruben Amorim After Red Devils' Recent Upturn in Results

‎Manchester United legend Sir David Beckham has offered a candid assessment of the club’s progress under manager Ruben Amorim, describing the team’s development as “slow” but noting signs of improvement. The Red Devils continue to face inconsistency issues, yet Beckham believes the current coaching setup is showing indications that positive steps can be made.

‎Ruben Amorim has been in charge at Old Trafford since November 2024, overseeing 56 matches that have produced 22 wins and 20 defeats. Manchester United recorded their lowest-ever Premier League finish last season, ending the campaign in 15th place. The club also missed out on European football for the current term after losing to Tottenham in the Europa League final.
‎United opened the new campaign with another setback after being eliminated from the Carabao Cup by League Two side Grimsby. Amorim faced significant pressure during that period but remained in his position. The team has since suffered only one defeat across their last seven fixtures, winning four during that stretch.
‎A 2-1 comeback victory at Crystal Palace highlighted the squad’s resilience, with Amorim expressing satisfaction with their response in that match. Beckham also took note of recent performances, sharing his views during a Sky Sports interview at the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Qatar. He praised the adjustments Amorim has made and acknowledged the improved run of results, stating that the manager is “changing things slowly.”
‎Beckham’s latest comments mark a more optimistic tone than the one he expressed following the 3-0 derby defeat to Manchester City in September. Speaking to CBS Sports at the time, he described the loss as a “very hard watch” and reflected on the frustration felt by supporters.
‎Discussion around Manchester United’s future continues off the pitch as well, with Beckham previously linked to a consortium exploring a potential takeover bid. The Glazer family remains in control of the club for now.
‎The former England captain also addressed the national team’s prospects ahead of the 2026 World Cup. He expressed confidence in Thomas Tuchel’s squad, praising captain Harry Kane’s goal-scoring form and leadership.
‎England await the upcoming World Cup group-stage draw, while Manchester United prepare for their next Premier League fixture — a home match against West Ham — as they sit seventh in the current standings.
