Phil Foden Agrees New Manchester City Contract Until 2030 Amid Transfer Interest
Phil Foden has reportedly made a decisive commitment to his future at Manchester City despite attracting interest from several clubs in England and across Europe. The England international is now set to remain at the Etihad Stadium for the prime years of his career after reaching an agreement in principle over a new long-term contract.
Manchester City are nearing the completion of a new deal for Foden that would keep him at the club until 2030. The proposed agreement also contains an option for an additional year, potentially extending his stay in Manchester until the age of 31.

Foden’s current contract had been approaching its final year, which opened the possibility for rival clubs to explore a potential move for the academy graduate. However, the 25-year-old has decided to continue his journey with his boyhood side instead of pursuing opportunities elsewhere.
Despite reported interest from clubs abroad and within the Premier League, the Stockport-born midfielder has remained committed to Manchester City and the club’s long-term vision.
Speculation around Foden’s future increased during a difficult spell in the 2025-26 season. The attacking midfielder has struggled to produce consistent numbers, recording only one goal contribution in his last 25 appearances.
His most recent goal came against Crystal Palace in mid-December, leading to suggestions that a move away from the Etihad could eventually become a possibility.
“If there was any indication that Phil Foden was not planning to sign a new contract at Man City, there would have been a number of clubs at home and abroad who would have been interested in the England international,” Football Insider have explained. “It was always going to be the case that both parties were happy to continue their relationship together. Foden is a City boy through and through.”
Despite the recent downturn in form, Pep Guardiola and Manchester City’s hierarchy reportedly continue to view Foden as a key figure in the club’s future plans.
With experienced players such as Bernardo Silva and John Stones expected to leave during the summer, City considered tying down Foden to a new contract a major priority in order to maintain continuity within the squad.
Football Insider added: “Maybe he has had a bit of a dip in form this season, but City are still fully behind him and counting on him for their long-term future as well, that’s why they’re gonna give him this new contract until 2030 with an option of another year. He’s got a big role to play for City and they would have been loath to see one of their own academy products move on to another club, so they’ll be happy now that they’ve agreed this new contract in principle.”
While Foden appears close to securing his future at Manchester City, uncertainty continues to surround Rodri.
The 2024 Ballon d’Or winner has endured an injury-hit campaign and has managed only 16 Premier League starts this season. With just one year remaining on his current deal, questions remain over whether the midfielder could leave as part of a wider rebuild in the middle of the park.
Rodri has previously admitted he would find it difficult to reject a move to Real Madrid if the opportunity presented itself. As contract discussions have not yet begun, City could face the possibility of losing one of their most influential midfielders while celebrating Foden’s renewed commitment to the club.
