Although Manchester United and Arsenal are also keen on the England international, current reports suggest City are ahead in the competition. The expectation is that the Etihad Stadium could become Anderson’s next destination.
The 23-year-old has enjoyed a rise in prominence since completing a £35 million switch from Newcastle United to Nottingham Forest in July 2024. His performances have established him as one of the most reliable midfielders in the league.
Changes within City’s midfield department have added urgency to their pursuit. Bernardo Silva is set to depart at the end of his deal in June, while doubts remain about the futures of Mateo Kovacic and Nico Gonzalez. Additionally, Real Madrid continue to monitor Rodri, though City are determined to keep him.
Anderson’s playing style presents a different dynamic. Known for his ball-winning ability and forward movement, he contrasts with Rodri’s calm distribution. His league-leading 270 duels won last season, compared to Rodri’s 106, underlines his effectiveness in physical battles.
Beyond midfield reinforcements, City are exploring other areas. RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande is being tracked, with interest also coming from Liverpool and Bayern Munich. In attack, Eli Junior Kroupi of Bournemouth is on the radar after registering 11 goals in 31 outings this campaign.
At the back, Feyenoord defender Givairo Read has been highlighted as a possible addition to strengthen the right-back position.
The timing of Anderson’s move is still unclear, particularly with the World Cup approaching. A strong showing under Thomas Tuchel for England could increase his market value.
With a contract running until June 2029, Nottingham Forest are expected to demand a significant transfer fee. Anderson is also grouped among elite midfield options potentially available this summer, including Adam Wharton, Sandro Tonali, and Carlos Baleba.
