‎Ruben Amorim Delivers Candid Assessment of Matheus Cunha's Manchester United Start and Challenges for Improvement

‎Ruben Amorim delivered a direct evaluation of Matheus Cunha’s early months at Manchester United, stressing that the forward has “so much to grow” after a slow start at Old Trafford. Cunha has registered one goal since completing his £62.5 million move from Wolves and remains under scrutiny for his output.

‎Cunha is expected to return against West Ham after missing matches against Crystal Palace and Everton due to a training-ground head knock. The forward rejoined team-mates at Carrington as preparations continued for Thursday’s Premier League fixture. Amorim highlighted that this marks the second time Cunha has spent a spell on the sidelines since joining the club and noted that the Brazilian still has more to contribute.
‎Amorim explained that Cunha has been preoccupied with goals, assists, and online criticism. He stated that the striker has been “thinking too much about the numbers” but emphasised the value Cunha brings to Manchester United’s overall play. The coach reiterated that the forward has growth ahead in both defensive and attacking phases.
‎Additional attention fell on Leny Yoro following the defender’s frustration after being substituted at half-time against Crystal Palace. Yoro conceded the penalty that allowed the Eagles to take the lead in a match United eventually won 2-1. Amorim appreciated Mason Mount’s decision to comfort the young defender but noted that Yoro can be overly affected by mistakes.
‎Amorim shared that Yoro reacted strongly because he wanted to excel and found the setback difficult. He pointed out that Yoro is learning through matches and challenges, and he underlined that the defender remains prepared for upcoming fixtures.
‎Cunha’s upcoming schedule offers opportunities to improve his goal tally. His lone Premier League strike came in the 4-2 victory over Brighton in October. Manchester United face a West Ham side positioned 17th in the league table with only one away win this season. The schedule also includes Cunha’s return to Wolves, a club currently struggling after collecting just two points this season.
‎Wolves continue searching for their first league victory and are trending toward historically low points totals. Cunha’s reunion with his former team arrives at a time when Manchester United are seeking consistent contributions from their £62.5m signing.
