‎Premier League Icons Criticize Benjamin Sesko as Man Utd Striker Faces Form Issues and New Injury Update

A Premier League legend has issued a blunt assessment of Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko, stating that the £74 million signing “looks like an academy player” following a difficult start to his career at Old Trafford. The Slovenia international joined United from RB Leipzig in the summer but has scored only two goals in his first 11 Premier League matches.

‎Sesko arrived as part of Manchester United’s efforts to rebuild their attack after a challenging 2024-25 campaign. The club had struggled for consistent goals, with Joshua Zirkzee, Rasmus Hojlund and Marcus Rashford unable to resolve the issues that defined the previous season. Ruben Amorim responded by signing Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Sesko to strengthen the frontline.
‎The contrasting form of United’s attackers has added to the scrutiny. Cunha and Mbeumo have delivered steady performances, but Sesko’s impact has remained limited, with only two goals in all competitions. This difference has intensified comparisons to other Premier League newcomers.
‎Robbie Fowler shared his perspective while discussing Sesko alongside Arsenal signing Viktor Gyokeres. Speaking to Adventure Gamers, Fowler noted that Gyokeres appears more suited to the league and highlighted the speed and energy the Arsenal forward has displayed. Fowler suggested that Sesko has found it harder to adapt, acknowledging his ability but remarking that he “looks a bit of an academy player” at this stage of his development.
‎Additional criticism has emerged from former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer. He reflected on Sesko’s early months at Old Trafford and questioned the fee paid for the 22-year-old. Shearer told Betfair that the price was high for a player still adjusting and indicated that Sesko should have converted more chances in his appearances so far.
‎A new challenge surfaced during Manchester United’s 2-2 draw against Tottenham. Sesko entered the match in the 58th minute but was later withdrawn after a strong challenge from Micky van de Ven left him with a knee concern. Ruben Amorim expressed worry about the injury after the match, focusing on Sesko’s condition rather than his form and emphasizing the uncertainty surrounding knee issues.
‎According to Sky Sports, Sesko is expected to be out for “at most” a month. The timeline rules him out of upcoming fixtures against Everton, Crystal Palace and West Ham. His availability for matches against Wolves and Bournemouth depends on his recovery, though the club considers the prognosis relatively positive given the potential severity of knee injuries.
