Kobbie Mainoo Emerges as 'Paul Pogba 2.0' as Juventus Compete With Napoli for Manchester United Midfielder
Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo continues to attract intense interest from Serie A, with Juventus reportedly joining Napoli in pursuit of the 20-year-old star. Mainoo’s stalled progression at Old Trafford has fueled speculation over a potential January exit, as Italian clubs monitor the Carrington academy graduate’s situation.

Reports from Tutto Juve describe Mainoo as a 'talent which conquers half of Europe' and suggest that Juventus sees him as the next Paul Pogba if he opts to leave Manchester for Turin. The young midfielder has drawn comparisons to Pogba’s early career, who left United for Juventus at 19 before returning in a record £89 million ($117m) deal in 2016.
Napoli is also reportedly considering Mainoo as a priority target to strengthen their midfield, with a permanent move suggested if negotiations progress. Juventus may attempt a winter swoop to recreate Pogba's path and secure a promising midfielder with substantial potential.
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has emphasized that January exits will only occur if they serve the club’s best interests. Amorim acknowledged the frustrations of players seeking more game-time but stressed that the team’s priorities remain central to transfer decisions. Mainoo, alongside Joshua Zirkzee, has previously been linked to potential departures as they search for consistent playing opportunities.
Mainoo’s current role at Old Trafford remains limited, with only 170 Premier League minutes this season. Despite public endorsements of his talent, selection patterns indicate minimal first-team involvement. Former Arsenal midfielder Stefan Schwarz has suggested that Arsenal could provide the ideal environment for Mainoo to develop, citing the club’s track record in nurturing young talent under Mikel Arteta.
Interest from Serie A is expected to intensify as the January transfer window approaches. Manchester United’s recent 1-0 home defeat to Everton ended a five-game unbeaten run, potentially impacting Mainoo’s opportunities. Champions League ambitions and a congested fixture schedule may further restrict game-time, increasing the likelihood of Mainoo exploring options abroad if Juventus or Napoli formalize their interest.
