‎Why Nottingham Forest Brutally Sacked Ange Postecoglou After Eight Games and 39 Days

‎Nottingham Forest have sacked Ange Postecoglou after just 39 days and eight matches in charge, ending a turbulent spell that produced no wins and mounting frustration within the club hierarchy. The decision came swiftly after a 3-0 home defeat to Chelsea, which left Forest hovering just above the Premier League relegation zone.

‎Postecoglou’s dismissal was driven primarily by a run of poor results and performances. Forest collected only one point from five league games under his management, scoring just once in a 1-1 draw with Burnley. The lack of attacking efficiency and defensive frailty contributed to growing concerns about the team’s direction.
‎The Australian manager was appointed in September to replace Nuno Espirito Santo, who was dismissed following tensions with club owner Evangelos Marinakis. Postecoglou was tasked with revitalizing Forest’s playing style and pushing for stability, but his attempts to impose an attacking philosophy quickly faltered against top-flight opposition.
‎Frustration within the club intensified after Forest’s 3-0 loss to Chelsea. Supporters began leaving the City Ground before the final whistle, and owner Marinakis was seen exiting his seat during the match. The reaction reflected a collapse in confidence both inside and outside the dressing room.
‎Postecoglou’s fate appeared sealed even before full-time, as chants of “sacked in the morning” echoed from the away section. Nineteen minutes after the match ended, Forest released a brief 39-word statement confirming his departure, citing “a series of disappointing results and performances.”
‎Sources around the club suggested that Postecoglou’s inability to adapt tactically and his failure to convert early dominance into victories were key reasons behind the decision. Despite promising an eventual turnaround and trophies, his side struggled to control matches beyond the opening phases, often losing momentum after halftime.
‎The defeat to Chelsea exposed familiar issues: missed chances, defensive lapses, and a lack of composure under pressure. Goals from Josh Acheampong, Pedro Neto, and Reece James punished Forest’s inefficiency and sealed what became Postecoglou’s final game in charge.
‎Forest’s struggles extended beyond the pitch. Growing tension between the coaching staff and sections of the fanbase added further pressure. Supporters who initially backed Postecoglou’s attacking vision turned critical following a Europa League loss to Midtjylland and back-to-back domestic defeats.
‎The 60-year-old’s dismissal marks his second sacking in four months after leaving Tottenham earlier this year. His short-lived spell at the City Ground has left Forest seeking their third manager of the season. Former Burnley and Everton boss Sean Dyche has emerged as an early contender to take over as the club looks to stabilize its campaign.
