‎The England international, once viewed as a cornerstone of Manchester United’s future, is currently on loan at the Camp Nou. His time with Barcelona has reignited his spark, offering a glimpse of the talent that once made him one of the Premier League’s brightest stars.
‎Marcus Rashford appeared to reach his peak during the 2022–23 season, scoring a career-best 30 goals for Manchester United. He earned a new long-term contract but gradually fell down the pecking order as his form dipped. A short loan spell at Aston Villa last season offered a chance for redemption, but a permanent deal never materialized.
‎Barcelona moved for the 27-year-old during the summer, and Rashford has since delivered three goals and five assists for the La Liga side. His performances have sparked speculation that the Catalan giants could make his stay permanent beyond 2026.
‎Speaking to ITV during the recent international break, Rashford explained that an unstable atmosphere at Manchester United made consistency difficult to achieve. He stated:
“Consistency is a massive part of it. I feel like I have been in an inconsistent environment for a very long time, so it is even more difficult to be consistent. I completely agree that consistency is what I need to bring into my game.”
‎Rashford added that frequent managerial and tactical changes had affected his rhythm, but he remained determined to improve and perform at his best.
‎Wayne Rooney, Manchester United’s all-time leading scorer, responded to Rashford’s remarks on The Wayne Rooney Show podcast. He acknowledged the challenges created by managerial turnover but argued that the player must also take personal responsibility for his own performances.
“I think the environment hasn’t been right, but that is down to yourself. If you’re not playing well or get left out of the team, it’s easier to blame the environment. That comes from how you apply yourself,” Rooney said.
‎Rooney added that Rashford’s work rate and consistency should not depend solely on external factors, noting that his talent has never been in doubt.
‎Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes also shared a critical view of Rashford’s recent attitude at Old Trafford. Scholes said that the forward’s demeanor in his final months at the club was disappointing and questioned his commitment to the team.
“I think he quit on Man United. When you quit once, you’ll quit again. He’s definitely got the talent to be one of the best, but he’ll never have the mentality,” Scholes remarked.
‎Marcus Rashford’s future at Manchester United remains uncertain. He has made 426 appearances for the club, scoring 138 goals and winning five major trophies since debuting in 2016. His contract runs until 2028, but with Barcelona reportedly considering a purchase option for 2026, his long-term future may lie in Spain.
‎Rashford’s resurgence in La Liga could yet redefine his career, as he looks to rebuild consistency and reclaim the level that once made him one of Europe’s most feared forwards.
