Manchester United Tipped for Unexpected Premier League Title Push as 'Positive Power' Builds Under Ruben Amorim
Manchester United have been backed for an unexpected Premier League title challenge as former coach Rene Meulensteen believes that “positive power” is finally taking hold under Ruben Amorim’s leadership at Old Trafford. The team’s recent win at Anfield against reigning champions Liverpool marked their first back-to-back Premier League victories since the Portuguese manager took charge.

Amorim’s early spell in Manchester was marked by difficulties. His debut season ended with United finishing 15th in the league and missing out on European football. Determined to rebuild, the head coach made major moves during the summer transfer window, bringing in high-profile signings such as Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo to strengthen his squad.
The new campaign initially brought more frustration as United managed only two wins in their first six Premier League matches and were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by fourth-tier side Grimsby Town. Momentum began to shift after a convincing victory over Sunderland, followed by a long-awaited triumph at Anfield—their first away win over Liverpool in nine years.
Following that result, Manchester United climbed to ninth in the table, sitting just two points behind third-placed Liverpool. Arsenal currently lead the league ahead of Manchester City, but Meulensteen suggested the title race could still take unexpected turns.
Speaking to CasinoHawks, the former United coach said, “There will be little twists and turns around the corner. If Arsenal lose one or two players or drop points, everything changes. I still think Arsenal, Man City, and Liverpool will be fighting for the Premier League, but we can’t rule out Man Utd if they continue this run. Three wins in a row can shift the momentum into a positive power, and suddenly it could be wide open.”
Meulensteen also praised Liverpool manager Arne Slot, despite the Reds suffering three consecutive league defeats to Crystal Palace, Chelsea, and Manchester United. “I have great respect for Arne Slot,” he said. “He won’t change. He’s always measured and honest in his approach. They’re playing good football and creating chances—they just aren’t finishing them. Sometimes you catch a wave and everything works, and sometimes it goes against you. The key is to stay consistent.”
United captain Bruno Fernandes echoed the optimism surrounding Amorim, affirming the squad’s faith in the manager’s methods following their victory over Liverpool. “Our shape always gives teams issues,” Fernandes said. “We believe in the system whether we win or lose. It’s about doing the right things in the right moments. We had to suffer at times in the game, but we trusted the process and it paid off.”
