‎Manchester United Target Jobe Bellingham as Ruben Amorim Eyes Midfield Reinforcement for 3-4-2-1 System

‎Manchester United are reportedly exploring a move for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jobe Bellingham as manager Ruben Amorim seeks to reshape his midfield options. The Portuguese tactician views the 19-year-old as a strong fit for his demanding 3-4-2-1 formation, valuing the youngster’s physical presence and technical versatility.

‎Jobe Bellingham’s Dortmund Struggles
‎Bellingham joined Borussia Dortmund from Sunderland during the summer transfer window, following in the footsteps of his older brother, Jude Bellingham. The Bundesliga side paid €33 million (£28m/$38m) for the promising midfielder after an impressive Championship campaign, during which he helped the Black Cats secure promotion to the Premier League.
‎Since arriving in Germany, Bellingham has found consistent playing time hard to come by under head coach Niko Kovac. He has featured in eight matches across all competitions, totaling 281 minutes on the pitch, with only three starts—two in the Bundesliga and one in the Champions League. The England youth international is yet to record a goal or assist this season.
‎Criticism Over Early Dortmund Form
‎Bellingham’s slow adaptation to life in the Bundesliga has not gone unnoticed. Former Germany international Dietmar Hamann recently commented on the player’s struggles, suggesting that his performances have not yet lived up to expectations. Hamann emphasized that Dortmund’s overall improvement under Kovac contrasts with Bellingham’s limited impact, adding that comparisons with his brother Jude have only intensified the pressure.
‎Manchester United and Crystal Palace Monitoring the Situation
‎According to BILD, Manchester United are keeping a close watch on Bellingham’s situation at Dortmund. Amorim believes the young midfielder could bring balance to United’s system, particularly with his athleticism and ability to transition between defense and attack. The club is reportedly considering a potential move to bring him back to England, just months after his transfer to Germany.
‎United could face stiff competition from Crystal Palace, who are also assessing midfield options ahead of a potential summer rebuild. Palace may lose key midfielder Adam Wharton, who has attracted interest from top European clubs including Real Madrid. Bellingham has emerged as one of several candidates being considered as a replacement.
‎United’s Ongoing Midfield Rebuild
‎Manchester United spent heavily to strengthen their attack during the previous transfer window, bringing in Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo. The midfield, however, remains a pressing concern. Casemiro’s advancing age and Kobbie Mainoo’s uncertain future at Old Trafford have increased the urgency for reinforcements.
‎The Red Devils had also expressed strong interest in Brighton’s Carlos Baleba toward the end of the transfer window, but his £115m ($156m) valuation proved too steep. Reports suggest the club could revisit that pursuit in January, depending on player availability and financial flexibility.
‎Liverpool Clash Awaits
‎Manchester United regained confidence before the international break with a convincing win over Sunderland, breaking a streak of disappointing results that had dropped them to 14th in the Premier League. Amorim’s men now prepare for a high-stakes trip to Anfield to face reigning champions Liverpool. The Merseyside club have suffered three consecutive defeats, giving United a chance to capitalize and continue their resurgence.
