Manchester United Move to Secure Harry Maguire's Future with New Contract Offer

‎Manchester United have begun formal discussions with Harry Maguire over a potential contract extension, according to reports from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The centre-back’s current deal runs out at the end of the season, but the Premier League side want to secure his long-term future at Old Trafford.

‎The 32-year-old defender joined United from Leicester City in 2019 for a record £80 million fee, becoming the most expensive centre-back in football history at the time. Despite facing early scrutiny, Maguire has re-established himself as a valued squad member under manager Ruben Amorim, appearing in six of United’s seven league games this season.
‎Club officials reportedly admire Maguire’s professionalism and leadership qualities, viewing his influence as vital to maintaining stability within the dressing room. Talks between United and Maguire’s representatives have already taken place, with further meetings expected to finalize contract terms. Romano confirmed on X that the club is “happy with Maguire’s contribution and leadership.”
‎The England international has previously attracted transfer interest, notably from West Ham United in 2023, but opted to remain at Old Trafford to fight for his place. Maguire recently revealed that United’s hierarchy made it clear he was not available for transfer over the summer, indicating their continued faith in his abilities and role within the team.
‎Several clubs reportedly made enquiries about his availability, but Manchester United were quick to dismiss the prospect of a sale. Speaking to ESPN, Maguire noted that the club’s current management structure, led by sporting director Jason Wilcox and supported by Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS group, has created a more positive and organized environment compared to previous seasons.
‎United will need to act quickly to finalize a new deal, as Maguire becomes eligible to negotiate with overseas clubs from January 1, ahead of his contract expiring next summer. The defender’s future remains a priority for the club, especially amid ongoing efforts to rebuild under Amorim.
‎Maguire’s situation also comes during a challenging period for Ruben Amorim, who continues to seek consistent results since replacing Erik ten Hag last November. The Portuguese manager recently guided United to a 2-0 win over Sunderland before the international break and now prepares for a crucial Premier League clash against rivals Liverpool at Anfield.
