Manchester United Manager Urged to Drop Diogo Dalot for Brighton Clash Despite Liverpool Win

‎Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim faces a crucial selection dilemma ahead of the Premier League clash against Brighton, as calls grow for him to bench Diogo Dalot despite the team’s impressive 2-1 victory over Liverpool.
‎Dalot, who played a key role in back-to-back wins, has been described as a potential “liability” by former United full-back Paul Parker, who believes Amorim should refresh his lineup for the upcoming match at the Amex Stadium.

‎Amorim Balances Form and Fitness Ahead of Brighton Trip
‎United’s performances under Amorim have shown mixed consistency, even with the advantage of a lighter schedule this season due to their absence from European competitions. The squad went through significant summer changes following the departures of Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, and Rasmus Hojlund, yet Dalot has remained a regular figure in Amorim’s plans.
‎Now wearing the number two shirt, Dalot’s intelligence and adaptability have made him a key part of the defensive setup. He has been tested in multiple roles, including a wide center-back position, and was recently added to United’s leadership group — a move that highlighted his influence within the squad.
‎Paul Parker Pushes for Defensive Shake-Up
‎Paul Parker, a former Manchester United defender, has suggested that Amorim should rethink his reliance on Dalot. Speaking about the team’s setup, Parker said:
“I’m a believer in continuity, but I just wonder if the team’s a little static. Dalot didn’t contribute much at either end of the pitch. I’d bring in Noussair Mazraoui — he’s more energetic, better defensively, and more consistent in attack. United are at home, so the wing-back should be more involved going forward.”
‎Parker added that Dalot’s recent display offered little offensively or defensively, labeling him a “liability” in both aspects and calling on Amorim to make a decisive change.
‎Adapting to Brighton’s Dynamic Playstyle
‎Parker further explained that Amorim must tailor his selection to counter Brighton’s fluid midfield and attacking movement, contrasting their approach with the more static setups of Liverpool and Arsenal.
“Brighton move the ball better and have players who run off the ball and into space. This makes them harder to play against. United need their most athletic players to cope with that intensity,” Parker said.
‎His comments highlight the tactical adjustments Amorim might need to secure a positive result against a side known for high-tempo football and flexible positional play.
‎Amorim Confirms Squad Updates Ahead of Match
‎Ahead of the weekend fixture, Amorim confirmed that Dalot is fit and available but noted a few minor concerns elsewhere in the squad.
“The squad is fine. We had some issues with Harry Maguire and Mason Mount, but nothing serious. Lisandro Martínez is still out but progressing well in training,” Amorim told reporters.
‎The Portuguese coach continues to evaluate his best defensive setup as United look to extend their winning run against a challenging Brighton side.
