Fernandes explained that Al-Hilal presented a proposal worth between £80 million and £100 million to Manchester United, along with a salary package described as “massive.” The Portuguese international admitted that the financial terms were very attractive but said his focus remained on continuing his career at Old Trafford.
Speaking ahead of his 300th appearance for Manchester United, Fernandes said he reached out to Ronaldo for advice about life in Saudi Arabia, given the striker’s experience at Al-Nassr. Ronaldo, who joined the Saudi Pro League in 2023, shared his thoughts with his former teammate, though Fernandes declined to reveal the details of their discussion.
Fernandes also revealed that he was approached by Jorge Jesus, now managing in Saudi Arabia, who joked about whether he was “too expensive” for Al-Hilal. The midfielder said that despite the significant offer, he wanted to remain in Manchester because he felt a strong connection to the club and wanted to continue playing in the Premier League.
Amorim played a major role in Fernandes’ decision to stay, making it clear that he remained an important part of the team’s project. The midfielder said he would have considered leaving only if the club no longer viewed him as part of its future plans. Both Amorim and the club assured him that he was still central to their ambitions, which confirmed his decision to reject the move.
The United captain admitted that Al-Hilal were disappointed by his choice but said he had no regrets. He also confirmed that even if another Saudi offer arrived next summer, his decision would be the same. Fernandes made it clear that his commitment to Manchester United has not changed and that any speculation about a pre-agreed transfer is false.
The Portuguese star added that his agent has clear instructions not to discuss any potential move until after the next World Cup, showing that his full attention is on Manchester United’s goals.
Amorim later praised Fernandes for his leadership qualities and dedication to the team. He described the midfielder as someone who takes responsibility and feels deeply affected by defeats, noting that his drive comes from a genuine desire to help the club succeed.
Since joining Manchester United, Fernandes has won the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024. Despite earning individual praise, he said his main ambition is to achieve more collective success with the team. Fernandes stated that personal recognition means little without major trophies and that his goal is to help United reach new levels of achievement.
