Manchester United Agree €40.5m Deal for Ederson in Midfield Boost from Atalanta

‎Manchester United have reached an agreement with Atalanta to sign Brazilian midfielder Ederson, marking an early statement of intent ahead of the upcoming season.
‎The 26-year-old will move to Old Trafford in a deal worth €40.5 million (£35m/$47m) as a fixed fee, along with €4.5 million (£4m/$5m) in potential add-ons.

‎Personal terms have already been agreed on a long-term contract running until June 2030, with an option to extend for a further 12 months.
‎Ederson is still required to undergo a medical before the transfer can be finalised. All parties are aiming to complete the move in early July.
‎The midfielder had attracted interest from several top clubs, but he prioritised a switch to Manchester United. With his contract situation meaning he could have become a free agent in the summer of 2027, United were able to negotiate a lower fee than previously expected.
‎The move represents a deliberate and strategic start to the transfer window for United, who are looking to strengthen their midfield following Casemiro’s departure.
‎Casemiro’s exit has created a gap in the squad, and further reinforcements are expected in midfield. Additional departures remain possible, while Michael Carrick’s side could also be preparing for the 2026–27 Champions League, increasing the need for squad depth.
