Marcus Rashford’s Manchester United Return Unlikely as Barcelona Loan Continues Despite Amorim Exit
Marcus Rashford’s chances of returning to Manchester United appear slim even after the dismissal of Ruben Amorim, according to a fresh report. The England forward’s temporary move to Barcelona was reportedly orchestrated by United’s hierarchy rather than the Portuguese coach, meaning Amorim’s exit has not altered Rashford’s situation.
Marcus Rashford is not expected to return to Manchester United following Ruben Amorim’s sacking, with reports stating the Barcelona loan decision came from club executives, not the former coach.

The attacker made the switch to Spain during the summer transfer window and has enjoyed a productive spell in La Liga. Across all competitions, Rashford has recorded seven goals and 11 assists, although his output has slowed slightly in recent weeks. In his last six league matches, he has managed just one assist.
A report from The Sun claims Rashford is not expected to return to Old Trafford in the near future, particularly during the January window. The same report notes that Amorim was not responsible for the decisions that saw Rashford, along with Rasmus Hojlund, Andre Onana, and Jadon Sancho, sent out on loan, as those calls were made at board level.
Rashford has openly admitted that he would welcome the opportunity to remain at Barcelona, with his focus firmly on winning trophies in Spain. He explained that staying at the club is his ultimate aim, though his motivation comes from the desire to win rather than personal ambition alone.
The forward also spoke positively about his adaptation to both the club and the city, revealing that he felt at home from the moment he arrived. He stressed that his priority is to help Barcelona replicate last season’s success and continue competing for honours.
Rashford further highlighted the competitive environment at Barcelona, stating that the pressure at the club is the kind he thrives on as a player. He emphasized that high expectations are essential for him to remain motivated and perform at his best.
During his time at Manchester United, Amorim made headlines with his criticism of Rashford’s training standards, once suggesting he would rather field the club’s then 63-year-old goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital than the forward if improvements were not made.
In contrast, Barcelona boss Hansi Flick has praised Rashford’s mentality. Flick revealed that when explaining squad decisions to the player, Rashford made it clear that team success mattered more than personal involvement, an attitude Flick described as exactly what the club wants.
Barcelona are set to face Athletic Club in the Spanish Super Cup this week, offering Rashford the chance to secure his first trophy with the Catalan giants. Fixtures against Real Sociedad in La Liga and Slavia Praha in the Champions League follow shortly after. Barcelona currently hold a four-point advantage over Real Madrid at the summit of the league.
