Bruno Fernandes Backed for Barcelona Move as Saudi Pro League Interest Remains Active

‎A call for Bruno Fernandes to consider a move to Barcelona has surfaced as former Blaugrana midfielder Gaizka Mendieta pointed to the Manchester United captain’s positional restrictions under manager Ruben Amorim. The Portuguese midfielder has been used in a deeper central role alongside Casemiro this season instead of operating in his usual advanced areas.

‎Fernandes’ Altered Position at Manchester United
‎The Portugal international produced standout numbers last season, finishing as United’s top goalscorer and creator with 19 goals and 19 assists across 57 appearances in all competitions. Ruben Amorim has since restructured the midfield, placing Fernandes in a two-man central pairing within a 3-4-2-1 setup. The arrivals of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, combined with Mason Mount’s resurgence, contributed to Fernandes being deployed in a more defensive role this campaign.
‎Mendieta Encourages Barcelona Switch
‎Speaking to Casinostugan, Mendieta suggested that Fernandes could thrive in La Liga and highlighted Ilkay Gündogan’s successful switch to Barcelona in his thirties as an example. Mendieta stated that positional changes at Old Trafford could influence Fernandes' thinking and expressed confidence in the midfielder’s ability to adapt to Spanish football. He added that Barcelona supporters would welcome Fernandes’ talent and personality.
‎Fernandes Also Linked to Saudi Pro League Interest
‎Saudi Pro League sides have monitored Fernandes for an extended period, though Manchester United rejected approaches in the previous window. The midfielder remains under contract until 2027, with an option for an additional year. Former United defender Wes Brown, speaking via BetWright casino to GOAL, advised the club not to dismiss substantial offers if they arrive, noting that Fernandes has consistently given his all for the team.
‎Wes Brown’s View on Possible Exit Scenarios
‎Brown acknowledged that Fernandes’ desire is to stay at Old Trafford but accepted that significant bids, particularly from Saudi Arabia, could prompt serious consideration. Brown emphasised the midfielder’s importance to the squad and noted the need for any future replacement to match his intensity and influence.
‎Amorim Provides Update on Injury Concern
‎Concerns emerged after Fernandes suffered a late knock during United’s comeback win against Crystal Palace. Amorim confirmed to TNT Sports that the issue was caused by a kick and required no further intervention. Fernandes is expected to be available for Manchester United’s upcoming Premier League match against West Ham at Old Trafford.
