Manchester City Begin Move to Re-Sign Pedro Porro From Tottenham

Manchester City have reportedly taken the first steps toward bringing Tottenham Hotspur defender Pedro Porro back to the club ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Premier League giants are preparing for significant changes following the end of Pep Guardiola’s 10-year spell at the Etihad Stadium. With Enzo Maresca expected to lead the club into a new era, City are prioritising reinforcements at right-back.

According to AS, Manchester City have already initiated contact regarding a potential move for Porro. The club are aiming to reshape the squad after narrowly missing out on the Premier League title in consecutive seasons, despite ending the campaign with domestic success by lifting both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

Tottenham, meanwhile, endured a difficult and turbulent season under Roberto De Zerbi. The north London side only secured Premier League survival on the final day, increasing uncertainty around the future of several key players.

Porro emerged as one of Tottenham’s few standout performers during the challenging campaign. The Spanish international featured in 47 matches and accumulated 3,923 minutes across the Premier League, Champions League and domestic cup competitions. He also contributed two goals and six assists.

One of his most notable displays came in a thrilling 4-2 Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid, where he registered both a goal and an assist.

Despite Tottenham tying the defender down to a contract that runs until June 2028, the club now face a difficult challenge to convince him to remain in London. Roberto De Zerbi reportedly considers Porro a crucial part of his rebuilding plans moving forward.

Manchester City already know the defender well, having previously owned the player before his move to Sporting CP. During his time in Portugal, Porro developed a strong reputation, attracting close attention from Hugo Viana, now City’s sporting director, who worked with him in Lisbon.

With continued concerns over the right-back position, City are said to be moving quickly to strengthen their position in the race for the Spaniard’s signature.

Tottenham are reportedly demanding an initial £50 million fee for the defender, with any interested club expected to meet that valuation to secure a deal this summer.

As the transfer window progresses, Manchester City are expected to intensify their pursuit in an attempt to complete the transfer before the World Cup. Tottenham must now decide whether to accept the £50m valuation or insist that Porro remains committed to his long-term contract.
