‎Manchester United Plot £60m Move for Crystal Palace Star Adam Wharton as Casemiro and Mainoo Face Old Trafford Exit in Midfield Overhaul

‎Manchester United are preparing a surprise move for Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton as part of a major midfield reshuffle under Ruben Amorim. The club has identified the 21-year-old as a top target after missing out on Carlos Baleba from Brighton during the summer transfer window.

‎The Red Devils invested heavily in new signings, including Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko, and Senne Lammens, in an effort to rebuild after finishing 15th in the Premier League last season — their worst-ever campaign. Despite strengthening in attack and defense, the lack of midfield reinforcements has remained a pressing issue.
‎Manchester United currently sit 10th in the table following their 2-0 victory over Sunderland before the international break, a match that delivered their first clean sheet of the season. Amorim is now determined to address the imbalance in midfield that has hindered consistency.
‎Adam Wharton has become one of the Premier League’s most impressive young midfielders since joining Crystal Palace from Blackburn Rovers in 2024. His composure, passing range, and ability to progress the ball have made him a standout performer at Selhurst Park.
‎The England international has attracted attention from Liverpool, Manchester City, and Real Madrid, but Manchester United are reportedly ready to make an early move with a £60 million offer. Palace, however, are expected to demand a higher fee for their prized asset.
‎Amorim is said to admire Wharton’s technical and tactical attributes, viewing him as a perfect fit for his three-man midfield system. Manchester United have struggled to control games this season, with the partnership of Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro coming under scrutiny.
‎Casemiro’s contract expires at the end of the current campaign, and United hold an option to extend it by one year. The Brazilian could, however, be sold as the club look to rejuvenate the squad. Kobbie Mainoo also faces an uncertain future, with the young midfielder linked with a January move as he seeks more playing time ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
‎Since joining Palace, Wharton has played a pivotal role in their historic FA Cup triumph — the club’s first major trophy — and their Community Shield victory against Liverpool. His adaptability to Oliver Glasner’s 3-4-2-1 formation has impressed observers, with Amorim keen to replicate that success at Old Trafford.
‎Wharton’s inclusion in England’s Euro 2024 squad and his consistent Premier League performances have strengthened his reputation as one of the brightest young talents in English football.
‎Kobbie Mainoo’s career trajectory has dipped since his breakout at Euro 2024, where he helped England reach the final. The 20-year-old has made only five league appearances this season, totaling 113 minutes. A lack of opportunities has increased the likelihood of a January transfer, with Napoli emerging as a potential destination.
‎Napoli has become a familiar landing spot for former United players, with Scott McTominay and Rasmus Hojlund both reviving their careers under Antonio Conte in Italy.
‎Casemiro could also be on his way out, bringing an end to a mixed spell at Old Trafford. The Brazilian midfielder was key to United’s EFL Cup triumph in his debut season but has since struggled to replicate that form, dividing opinion among fans and pundits alike.
